Fifty-five million worth of irrigation projects in Ifugao were turned over for operation and maintenance to the farmer-irrigators in the municipalities of Hungduan, Kiangan and Mayoyao in this province after a series of turnover ceremonies were conducted on December 20 and 21, 2021.
Engr. Benito Espique, Jr., NIA-CAR Regional Manager, in his message to the farmers in Hungduan, Ifugao, said that NIA will always be open to farmers when it comes to irrigation development as it supports agricultural and food production, “NIA ket sinlulukat para kenyayu ken serbisyuan dakayu in terms of irrigation development ta daytuy irrigation projects ket in support iti programa ti gobyerno nga agricultural and food production.”
A total of 19 irrigation systems/projects were turned over to irrigators’ associations (IA) for operation and maintenance. These projects will irrigate over 256 hectares of farmlands and benefit 428 farmers.

Meanwhile, Engr. Patrick Resurreccion, NIA-Ifugao Provincial Head urged the farmers to submit their requirements in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) annually and added that they shall adhere to other requirements in order to acquire funds for maintenance of the project facilities.
Atty. Raul Laluan, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer, Ifugao, said that the projects implemented by the government will be turned over to the farmers in order for them to maintain as they will be the ones who would benefit from these, “inted ti gobyerno dagituy nga project ta ti purpose na nu apay nga iturn over mi daytuy kenyayu tapnu dakayu ti mang-aywan, ta dakayu met ti mang-usar kadagituy.”
Mr. Joel Guibong, President of Tuplac Good Shepherd IA and president of the Kiangan Federation of IAs expressed gratitude to NIA for the support and help to all fellow farmers.
The turnover was graced by the local officials of each municipality headed by the municipal mayors, Mayor Casan Dumulag of Hungduan, Mayor Raldis Bulayungan of Kiangan and Mayor Jimmy Padchanan Jr. of Mayoyao.
