NIA-Benguet Satellite Office Head, Engr. Godofredo Velaque and President of the Tinongdan Indigenous Peoples Organization, Inc., Mr. Norberto Pacio, who is also a councilor of Itogon, lead the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Mambolo-Tinongdan Small Irrigation System (SIS) in one of the reservoir tanks of the project during the turnover ceremony on October 6, 2023.

ITOGON, BENGUET – The Mambolo-Tinongdan Small Irrigation System (SIS) will now be operated and maintained by the Tinongdan Indigenous Peoples Organization, Inc. of this municipality after the ceremonial turnover and acceptance held at the barangay hall of Mambolo on October 6, 2023.

Funded under NIA’s Small Irrigation Projects (SIP) amounting to P2.39 million, the Mambolo-Tinongdan SIS irrigates 8 hectares and serves 16 farmer-beneficiaries.

MANKAYAN, BENGUET - The Pasnaan Communal Irrigation System (CIS) is officially turned over to the Lower Cada Farmers Irrigators’ Association for operation and maintenance after the turnover ceremony held in Brgy. Balili of this municipality on September 26, 2023.

The Pasnaan CIS is an existing irrigation system located in Brgy. Balili, Mankayan, Benguet which is funded under the Restoration of Existing Communal Irrigation System (RECIS) with P2.6 million project cost.

Native/Indigenous tree seedlings are being advocated by the Outstanding Taloy Sur Irrigators’ Association during their exhibit held at their office at Taloy Sur 2nd View Deck, Bawek, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet on August 18, 2023. Native trees are a stabilizer of the ecosystem and more resilient in harsh weather conditions.

The Taloy Sur Irrigators’ Association (IA) is advocating the planting of indigenous/native trees.

Aside from planting these at various sites, it conducted a Kadasan Exhibit with the theme “What and Why Native Trees?” held at their office at Taloy Sur 2nd View Deck, Bawek, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet on August 18, 2023.

“Kadasan” is an Ibaloi word that is a general term for non-pine trees especially when the scientific name is unknown and also refers to broad leaves, shrubs, and oak-dominated forests. In the Kankana-ey language, it is called “Kallasan”.
