NIA-CAR Regional Manager Benito T. Espique, Jr. hands over the documents of the completed irrigation projects to Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas who also turned them over to the leaders of Irrigators’ Associations during the mass turnover of irrigation projects in Benguet at the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet, September 24. The 15 projects were jointly funded by the NIA and PLGU under the Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program.

The first delivery of the P29/kg rice of the contract farming with the Irrigators’ Associations of Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (IMO) arrived at the NIA Farmers’ Training Center on August 30, 2024 in preparation for the nationwide launching of the Murang Bigas at P29/kg. More deliveries are expected to arrive in the succeeding days.

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – The National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera Administrative Region (NIA-CAR) in partnership with the Irrigators’ Associations will soon be selling rice at P29/kg.

This developed with the start of arrival of newly milled rice at the NIA regional office in Brgy. Wangal coming from the first harvests of irrigators who signed up with the contract farming earlier this year.

A training on vegetable-pickling and kimchi-making was conducted for irrigators’ associations in the Province of Benguet on August 14-15, 2024 at the NIA Farmers Training Center in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.

A convergence program between the NIA and TESDA, the skills training aims to capacitate irrigators to process vegetables for home consumption or business enterprise, especially in times when there is oversupply of vegetables.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. led the turnover of 13 completed irrigation projects to Irrigator's Associations (IA) at the Luna Municipal Gymnasium grounds in Luna, Apayao on July 19, 2024.

Nine of the 13 irrigation projects amounting to P27.534  million are located in Kalinga with 216 hectares service area and 220 farmers. Four projects amounting to P37 million are located in Apayao with 314.31 hectares with 251 farmers.

These projects are Macutay Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation System (SPIS), San Pascual SPIS both in Rizal, Kalinga, Dangtalan Communal Irrigation System (CIS) in Pasil, Chico SPIS, Gitilen Pump Irrigation System (PIS), Kagmay PIS, Suyang CIS, and Balawag Paligatto CIS, all in Tabuk City, Kalinga.

About 600 narra and molave seedlings were planted at Hapid, Lamut, Ifugao, which is one of the water source of Hapid Irrigation System. A total of 3,915 tree seedlings were planted by NIA-CAR personnel on July 5, 2024, the NIA nationwide synchronized tree planting date.

A total of 3,915 tree seedlings were planted by employees of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) during the agency’s nationwide synchronized tree planting on July 5, 2023.

The synchronized tree planting has been a practice of the NIA as part of the celebration of its anniversary and conducted in all offices of the agency nationwide on the same date in recognition of the significance of watersheds in sustaining irrigation water.
