NIA Kalinga inaugurates new farmers training center, turns over completed projects to irrigators

The façade of the newly completed Farmer’s Training Center of NIA-Kalinga Irrigation Management looks picturesque with its instagrammable design.

TABUK CITY, KALINGA – Irrigators and farmers of Kalinga and of other CAR provinces will now have better facilities for the conduct of their meetings, trainings and other capability building activities.

This developed with the inauguration of the two-storey Farmer's Training Center of NIA-Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (IMO) in Brgy. Bulanao, March 20, 2025.

With a floor area of 555 square meters, the new building features a training hall, dining hall with kitchen area, three suite rooms, six dormitory-type rooms and other building facilities.

CAR Irrigators Crown Mr. & Ms. CARFIA 2025

The Mr. CARFIA 2025 is Mr. Eli Fernandez of Kalinga while the Ms. CARFIA 2025 is Ms. Virginia Echiverri of Apayao. With them are the former Mr. & Ms. CARFIA, Mr. Simplicio Agurin, and Ms. Mary Angeline Lumas-i, who transferred the crowns to the new winners.

BONTOC, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE - The CAR Federation of Irrigators' Associations (CARFIA) crowned its new king and queen of wit and beauty at the Governor Leonard Mayaen Sports Center in Brgy. Poblacion of this municipality on January 17, 2025.

The Mr. CARFIA 2025 is Mr. Eli Fernandez of Kalinga while the Ms. CARFIA 2025 is Ms. Virginia Echiverri of Apayao.

The Search for Mr. & Ms. CARFIA, as well as a singing contest, was part of the CARFIA Congress held on January 16-17, 2025. It served as avenue to prove that irrigators are indeed boundless in their talents and skills.

NIA Cordillera sold 22,000 bags of P29/kg rice to vulnerable groups in 2024

NIA-CAR Regional Manager Benito Espique, Jr. and National Confederation of Irrigators’ Associations (NCIA) President Remy Albano lead the selling of P29/kg rice at the NIA-CAR grounds in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet during the grand launching of Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka (BBM) rice which was conducted simultaneously nationwide on September 13, 2024.

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – The National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera Administration-CAR in partnership with the Irrigators’ Associations sold a total 22,972 bags of murang bigas priced at P29/kg called Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice from September to December 2024.

Record shows that more than 14,000 or 61% were sold to senior citizens, 26% to indigents (4Ps members), and 12% to solo parents and PWDs in select Kadiwa ng Pangulo sa NIA Apayao, Kalinga, UCRIS-Quezon and Mallig in Isabela, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province and Baguio City. NIA trains irrigators on water savings technique

Irrigators of the West Apayao Abulug Irrigation System, who participated in the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) training on December 4 and 5, 2024, witness how an observation well is used to monitor the status of field water above the ground and within the root system. AWD is a water savings technique, alternates between flooding and drying fields to reduce water usage while maintaining yields.

Members and officers of twenty-two Irrigators Associations (IAs) of the West Apayao Abulug Irrigation System are now one step forward towards irrigation water savings after participating in a training on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD).

NIA Cordillera sold 10,000 bags of P29/kg rice to vulnerable groups

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – The National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera Administration-CAR in partnership with the Irrigators’ Associations has sold a total 10,478 bags of murang bigas priced at P29/kg called Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice.

The P29/kg rice or Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice was also sold during the Livestock and Poultry Celebration of the City Government of Baguio on November 6, 2024.
