NIA turns over completed irrigation projects to irrigators in Bakun, Benguet

BAKUN, BENGUET – Vegetable farmers in Brgy. Gambang of this municipality will have more reliable irrigation water with the restoration of the Yugo-Gambang Communal Irrigation System.

This was shared by Mr. Bernabe Soriano, one of the farmers being served by the just completed irrigation project, during the simple turnover and acceptance ceremony of the project held in Sitio Labilab, Brgy. Gambang on January 19, 2025.

The Yugo-Gambang CIS has a total service area of 17.5 hectares with 109 farmers, all tilling vegetable and other high value crops. With a contract cost of P7.867 million, among the major completed facilities include construction of 12 units of reservoir tanks, one-unit pumphouse, repair of 5 units of existing reservoir tanks, installation of 16 HP pump with diesel engine, and 17,360 linear meters of pipelines. The CIS was first assisted by NIA and CHARMP in 2001.

Funded under NIA’s restoration of existing CIS for 2025, the project was completed and underwent test-run in November 2025. After its turnover and acceptance ceremony, the Yugo-Labilab Irrigators’ Association will now take over its operation and maintenance.

The ceremony was led by NIA-Benguet Satellite Office Provincial Head, Engr. Chester Laplana, NIA-CAR Supervising Irrigators’ Development Officer Paulita Yagyagan who represented Regional Manager Ronilio Cervantes, Gambang Barangay Captain Alfredo Paquito, Yugo-Labilab Irrigators’ Association leaders and members headed by President Agustin Patic-a.
