Various repair and maintenance activities at the biggest irrigation system in CAR, Upper Chico River Irrigation System in Tabuk, Kalinga, are currently underway during the irrigation cut off to maintain the efficiency of water delivery.

Among these improvement activities include desilting of the main diversion canal which are full of more than 1.5-meter-thick silt.

Irrigation water was able to reach the service area located at Sitio Obullan (above Km. 4) in Brgy. Pico, which is now being cultivated for high value crops such as cabbage and sayote.
La Trinidad, Benguet—Farmers of Sitio Obullan, Brgy. Pico of this town are now enjoying gardening with the availability of irrigation water brought about by the completion of Bayabas Pump Irrigation Project (PIP) this April.

The project has an area of five hectares with 15 farmer-beneficiaries. The irrigated area is currently being cultivated for cabbage while tie wires are already set up as trellis for newly planted sayote.

View from the top of the irrigation facilities and service area of the Laya West Communal Irrigation Project Phase completed early this year 2021. The overall total service area of the project is 133 hectares.
The National Irrigation Administration through its Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (IMO) has completed implementation of the Laya West Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) and is currently being utilized by the farmers in Brgy. Laya West, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Service areas of the Bullalayao IA which total to 45.6 hectares are patches of farmlands forming rice terraces found along the Western Kalinga-Abra Road enveloped by the towering mountains of the Cordilleras.

Tribal unity has been a choice as tradition by the Bullalayao Irrigators’ Association of Brgy. Pantikian in Balbalan, Kalinga, one of the places with the lowest crime rate in the province. The organization is composed of 50 members from Sitio Bullalayao, Palpalnus, Gunas and Pantikian Proper who belong to the Banao sub-tribe, one of the 31 sub-tribes of the ethnolinguistic cluster of Kalinga.

Engr. C’zar Sulaik, National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations pledged full support of NIA Central Office to the ongoing irrigation projects in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

In a bid to gain better understanding of what is happening in the field especially in project implementation, Engr. Sulaik and Engr. Lydia S.
