Presidents of the four Irrigators’ Associations, Honorato Valera, Clemen Alvarez, Arnel Valera and Ronald Rubio, receive the turnover documents of the completed four irrigation projects in Abra from NIA-CAR Regional Manager Benito Espique, Jr., and NIA Abra Satellite Office Head Ronald Bisquera during the turnover ceremony at the NIA-Abra office in Brgy. Native/Indigenous tree seedlings are being advocated by the Outstanding Taloy Sur Irrigators’ Association during their exhibit held at their office at Taloy Sur 2nd View Deck, Bawek, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet on August 18, 2023. Native trees are a stabilizer of the ecosystem and more resilient in harsh weather conditions.

The Taloy Sur Irrigators’ Association (IA) is advocating the planting of indigenous/native trees.

Aside from planting these at various sites, it conducted a Kadasan Exhibit with the theme “What and Why Native Trees?” held at their office at Taloy Sur 2nd View Deck, Bawek, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet on August 18, 2023.

“Kadasan” is an Ibaloi word that is a general term for non-pine trees especially when the scientific name is unknown and also refers to broad leaves, shrubs, and oak-dominated forests. In the Kankana-ey language, it is called “Kallasan”.

The Zipla Solar Pump Irrigation Project (SPIP) in Brgy. Nambaran, Tabuk City, Kalinga was turned over by the NIA Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (IMO) to the United Ileb Farmers Irrigators Association represented by its President Benito Dawangan for operation and maintenance on August 23, 2023. Funded under NIA’s Establishment of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (EGPIP), the Zipla SPIP has a service area of 7 hectares with 10 farmers.
