Portion of the rice terraces which are now being cultivated for the first time after its abandonment.

About a year ago, portion of the rice farms in Kiangan and Asipulo, Ifugao were deserted, sprawled only with tall grasses and bushes, bearing no mark of the picturesque and productive terraces they once were when they were being cultivated for the traditional heirloom rice. According to Kagawad Norma Balawon of Brgy. Julongan, Kiangan, Ifugao, these patches of rice terraces were abandoned about ten years ago due to lack of irrigation water and the local migration of farming families to other areas in search of a different future.

NIA-CAR reschedules the irrigation cut-off of the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) from March 20, 2018 to April 15, 2018 to save 1500 hectares of standing rice crops.

Engr.
