TABUK CITY, KALINGA – Various agencies led by the National Irrigation Administration met with Irrigators’ Associations (IA) of the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) in a system committee meeting (SMC) to plan for the next cropping season at the Davidson Hotel in Brgy. Bulanao yesterday, September 29, 2022.
With the start of the irrigation water delivery for the next cropping season set on December 1, 2022, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) and Office for the City Agricultural Services (OFCAS) will also set the schedule of the distribution of seeds and fertilizers. Also present during the meeting are the Land Bank of the Philippines Tabuk Branch CAR Lending, which will release agricultural loans based on the set cropping calendar, and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga.
Engr. Leonardo Lamangen, Division Manager of the Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (IMO), urged the different leaders of the UCRIS Tabuk and Pinukpuk Federation of IAs and UCRIS Quezon and Mallig Federation of IAs on strict adherence to the cropping calendar. This is to facilitate smooth implementation of the different activities of the farmers and various agencies including NIA’s scheduled repair and maintenance activities within the irrigation system.
As agreed during the workshop of the UCRIS Irrigators’ Associations with the Kalinga IMO last September 19, 2022, UCRIS irrigation water cut-off for the dry crop is set on May 1, 2023 - June 30, 2023. The UCRIS Operation and Maintenance Plans for CY 2023 were also presented during the meeting.
The SMC meeting is quarterly activity of the NIA and Irrigators’ Associations together with agencies and stakeholders on Agricultural Support Services such as the OPAG and Landbank.
