NIA completes solar-powered pump project in Mountain Province

PARACELIS, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE - The National Irrigation Administration has completed the Bue Small Irrigation Project (SIP) which involved the installation of solar-powered pump.

Located in Brgy. Bacarri, the project has a service area of 9 hectares with 17 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB) of the Mabato-Wala Irrigators’ Association.

Funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Project-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) allocation of three million pesos, the project involved the supply, delivery, and installation of a solar-powered pump with complete accessories, 460 meters of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, and construction of intake structures, three reservoir tanks and an inverter/generator house.

According to Engr. Liza Challikis, provincial head of the NIA Mountain Province Satellite Office, the project is the first solar-powered pump project in Mountain Province.

Other solar irrigation projects are located in Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, and Benguet.
