Bontoc, Mountain Province—Nine irrigation systems in this province will now be operated and maintained by organized Irrigators’ Associations (IAs) after the NIA turned over these systems to them in a simple ceremony at the NIA grounds in Brgy. Upper Caluttit of this municipality on September 1, 2021.
With a total project cost of 15.984 million pesos, these nine irrigation systems have a total service area of 113.5 hectares with 802 farmer-beneficiaries.
These irrigation systems are Maroob Creek-Caneo Small Irrigation System (SIS) in Caneo, Bontoc which was turned over to Marunog-Hummad IA, Seb-ay SIS and Maligcong CIS, both in Maligcong, Bontoc turned over to Charkongan IA, Ogo-og Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS) and Monamon-Nakulla-Chuckong SIS both in Ogo-og, Barlig turned over to Ogoog Umaarak IA, Nabining-Sinegbowan CIS in Data, Sabangan to Data Irrigators and Gardeners Association.
Meanwhile, the Lichan Tumhar SIS in Alunogan, Natonin was turned over to Alunogan IA, Socochat CIS in Latang, Barlig to Latang Barlig IA, Amkawew Boowan CIS in Poblacion, Sagada to Tubeng Malbo IA.
“Kitaen you ta dakayo mangdalus, mangmintinar. Amin nga responsibilidad ti minor repairs kt iti Irrigators’ Association ta daytoy ket bagi yun nga Irrigators. Nu ada major repairs mabalin yu nga iumay ditoy NIA. Ngem of course mintinaren yu kuma tapnu awan ti major repairs,” urged Hon. Maximo Dalog, Jr., representative of the Lone District of Mountain Province.
Dalog also added that his office is always open for issues and concerns on irrigation as he works together with the NIA.
“Nakatulong isnan kakadwa ay mannalon tay nalaklaka ay madalusan nan irigasyon tay nasemento et. Tay actually et maid nasemento ay irigasyon id Can-eo ngem idwani et nensasaruno ay nasemento. Salamat isnan NIA, isnan gobyerno taku isnan tulong da. Adi kayo maum uma kendakami, ituloy taku kayet tapnu adu nan mannalon ay matulongan,” shared Dionesia Finnek, president of Marunog-Hummad Irrigators’ Association to which the Maroob Creek-Caneo Small Irrigation System is turned over. [The irrigation projects is a big help to us farmers as it is now easier to maintain the concreted facilities. In the past, there were no lined canals in Can-eo, but now improvements have been continually implemented. We thank the NIA and the government for the project, and we hope for the continual assistance to benefit more farmers.]
Engr. Benito T. Espique, Jr., NIA-CAR Regional Manager said to the Irrigators Associations, “Itultuluy yu nga aywanan dagita nga proyekto yu ket ammu mi uray kasatnu ti kinabassit na dagituy, atleast makita mi nga makatulong kenyayo.” [Continue with the care of these irrigation systems. Though these are small projects, at least they can be of help to you.]
In attendance during the activity include Provincial Administrator Jose Tumbali, Mayor Gabino Ganggangan of Sadanga, IA Provincial Federation President Clement Sokoken and various irrigators’ association leaders.
